Skin Tone, Clarity and Color
Facial peels can improve sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, freckles, pigment changes and mild acne scarring. Peels improve the total skin appearance, not just a small defined area. Facial peels produce a generalized tightening of the skin providing smoother texture and increased elasticity.
Patients who may not be ready for a facelift or other facial surgery, are good candidates for peels. For patients who want total rejuvenation, peels also work very well in conjunction with facial surgery.
There are many peel procedures available including light, medium and heavy varieties. The selection of a peel depends on the condition of your skin and your skin fitness goals.
Light fruit acid peels can be a routine part of maintaining a normal, healthy skin appearance. Light peels lessen fine lines, lighten uneven pigmentation, reduce the frequency of acne, and make the skin appear smoother and softer.
The Micropeel® is a light fruit acid peel that gradually improves skin tone, clarity and texture without causing skin irritation. Many patients feel quite comfortable having it done on their lunch break. We recommend patients include Micropeels as part of their skin care program as a way to accelerate the results of the products. The regular removal of dead skin layers means the skin health products are always working on the healthiest skin. Micropeels are most effective when applied 5 to 6 times over several weeks or months.
There are stronger, deeper penetrating peels that provide dramatic results with a single application.
The Obagi Blue Peel is a medium to heavy peel that is better at solving more noticeable skin problems such as uneven pigmentation or coarse skin. The Obagi Blue Peel induces a true peeling action forcing the regeneration of younger-looking skin. The heavier peel may require a week to two weeks for recovery. The strength of the peel is variable and will depend on what you want to achieve.
