Minor side effects are common in nasal surgeries. This includes a persistent runny nose. During the healing process, excess mucus production is a common side effect which could generally lasts around one year following the surgery. Other normal side effects include a temporary loss of smell, which can last several weeks or months after the surgery, and occasional nose bleeds. There are also chance of infection with any surgery which much rarer for rhinoplasty. Infections can occur in around 2% of rhinoplasty patients, but these can be easily treated with antibiotics.
