Dr. Simoni proceeded to enter the medical school affiliated with Yeshiva University, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, for his postgraduate studies. Dr. Simoni won admission to the Roth Institute Scholars Program; this opportunity is targeted specifically for students interested in biomedical research, and it provides 10 weeks of biology research study in a laboratory at the University. Dr. Simoni received his M.D. with research distinction in 1997, and he was selected for the National Institute of Neurology and Communicative Disorders Award that same year.

Dr. Simoni moved to Birmingham, where he accepted an internship in general surgery at the University of Alabama. He remained at the same institution for his residency in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. He also won a junior fellowship with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and he eventually served as Chief Resident at the University of Alabama from 2000 to 2002. Subsequently, Dr. Payman Simoni chose to focus on the subspecialty of facial plastic surgery. He traveled across the U.S. to train with the top practitioners in the field, including Dr. Artemus Cox, Dr. Russell Kridel, and Dr. Luis Vasconez. Dr. Jeffrey Klein, the inventor of tumescent liposuction, also trained Dr. Simoni in the latest liposculpture techniques.

Double board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Simoni possesses unrestricted licenses to practice in California and New York. He consults with patients at his bicoastal practice’s offices in Beverly Hills and Long Island.

With all this said, the US News and World Report states how plastic surgery can now help boost your careers. In fact The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery also reported that “two thirds of its members, both men and women, wanted cosmetic surgery because they wanted to remain competitive in the workplace.”
This information is sad but true. We as a society, although it is done subconsciously, base many judgments and assumptions on looks and appearances. We trust those with good looks more so than others, we hire the more attractive of potential employees etc. it is in fact a fascinating science of the laws of attraction, no?

We all know that bullying has been a major issue in America recently. With teens being taunted for their weight, orientation, race, even clothing. This sort of abuse can be detrimental and have even caused many to end their own lives. Now, with the teasing and name calling in excess, some teens have resorted to plastic surgery to combat the hurtful words.
Erica Morgo underwent a rhinoplasty at age 15 due to constantly being made fun of by her peers for having what she called ” a big nose”. She told ABCnews.com that “In sixth grade I was in the bus, and a lot of boys made fun of me for having a big nose,” Erica said. “They would call me Pinocchio. And in school, in class, people would point it out. I felt helpless. I felt like a loser.” Eventually Erica missed almost a month of classes and tried to break her own nose by hitting her face against a door. It was after this incident that her mother allowed her to undergo a nose job which has since brought back her self esteem.
Dr. Simoni who specializes in rhinoplasty believes that getting surgery to appease other people is definitely not a healthy thing to do. The issues with bullying and teasing need to be addressed and worked out first before deciding on plastic surgery. Surgery is the last resort and the patient needs to be mature and be doing it for their own confidence and happiness. In the situation with Erica, it seems like it did work out for the best for her but this is not likely the case for all.
Plastic surgery among teens is on the rise thanks in part to the already difficult time of being that age and not having self esteem and/or being made fun of. The majority of procedures are rhinoplasty, earpinning, and breast reductions and augmentations.

Beverly Hills or Orange County? Which clan of Housewives are the cosmetic surgery queens? Tough call right? Well the new brood is taking the cake for most procedures but not all. When it comes to breast implants, the ladies of the OC beat out Beverly Hills with all but one of them having implants (As opposed to the implant count of 2 women on the Beverly Hills season). But when it comes to fillers and injectables, Beverly Hills wins that race. Every cast member has had Botox and/or facial and lip fillers. In addition, Beverly Hills beat out the OC in terms of nose jobs as well. Famed Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Payman Simoni, who does not treat any of the cast members, states that the desire to look youthful and natural is definitely prominent in Beverly Hills as he sees many patients who are looking to decrease wrinkles and plump lines.

More men are making their way through the doors of plastic surgeons offices these days with an intent to look younger and less worried. With the recession and people losing their jobs, older men want to do anything and everything to have an edge over their younger competition. The percentages of increase in male brow lifts, facelifts and botox are on a steady rise. The top five male procedures have been rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), breast reduction, otoplasty (ear pinning) , and liposuction. Yet it seems that botox and injectables will soon make the list as looking young and fresh faced seems to be the main desire. What’s more interesting is that men start with procedures much younger than women. The average age women start to look into and get aesthetic procedures is around 40 while men are coming in at around 30. The most serious of these cases though comes in the form of extortion. “In a few situations, patients threatened to post negative comments and ratings about our practice on social and forum websites if we did not refund their money once their procedure was completed”, explained Dr. Simoni.

One con artist requested $100,000 or she threatened to ruin Dr. Simoni’s reputation online. Soon finding out they were not the only victim of her scam (she has done this to handful of other plastic surgeons) they were quick to turn her down, and in no time hundreds of negative posts against Dr. Simoni were scattered throughout the Internet. Thus resulting in potential patients -who were not aware of this type of deception- seeing and believing the postings and then canceling their procedures.

These scam artists know these facts and use it to their advantage.

To make matters worse, some websites are taking part in this online fraud themselves and requesting exuberant amounts of money from plastic surgeons to remove these fake posts. Websites like ripoffreport.com and pissedconsumer.com are at the forefront of these extortion schemes.  These websites invite negative comments and block positive ones to force plastic surgeons in to paying them kickbacks.

Online extortion has become an important expenditure for many plastic surgeons.  These con men target top plastic surgeons to better ensure their paybacks.  Many assume that plastic surgeons make enough money –“so who cares”.  But in reality, once these unnecessary expenses occur, plastic surgeons have more difficulty easening up on their fees to try to help their patients in this tough economy.  So once again, ultimately, the honest people are the one who get hurt, patient and their doctor alike.

Many say that a tough economy brings out the worst in people, but in terms of plastic surgery offices it’s bringing the worst people IN.
