Ten Secrets for Getting High Quality Plastic Surgery at More Affordable Prices

With the advances in medical science and technology and improved social economy, plastic surgery is no longer belongs to rich and famous.  In reality more than one third of plastic surgery patients finance their surgery.  However, despite significant affordability of the cosmetic surgery it is still carry a high price tag.  Like any other business a savvy customer can get bargain prices.  The following are few pointers to help turning you to a savvy plastic surgery customer.

 

1-     Don’t be afraid of asking for a discount.  This is the first lesson in life, “if you do not ask you won’t not get”. 

  1. Dr Simoni’s Advice:  be polite and friendly when asking for discount.  If you show un-friendly behavior it may be a sign of how you may behave after you are done with your procedure.

2-     Plastic Surgery is seasonal.  Certain times of the year is considered quite season for plastic surgery.  You may have a better chance of getting you desired fee if you plan your procedure during these times.  You can ask the office staff as when is their slow time of the year.  Slow times for plastic surgery are usually Septembers and Decembers.

  1. Dr S Advice: When asking for discount explain your readiness to be flexible with your schedule.

3-     Get few quotes.  Go to more than one consult, so you get a feel for how much your desired procedure could cost. Tell your plastic surgeon of your previous quotes you have got.  You might be able to use the competition as a bargaining chip.

  1. Dr S Advice:  Without glorifying or degrading the previous surgeons you have met, ask you plastic surgeon of what he thinks of your previous quotes.  It gives your surgeon a chance to divulge some unknown secrets about other surgeons.  “There were times that my patients were confused as how come another doctor office down the block advertises for half of my fee” said Dr Simoni, a Beverly Hills Facial plastic surgeon.  “I had to educate my patient that the other physicians are not board certified and/or operate in a non accredited operating room”.  “Interesting enough, I still lowered my fee so my patient can get higher quality care without the financial burden” explained Dr Simoni.
  2. Warning:  Make sure you compare apple with apple.  You should identify each procedure by its medical name.

4-     Go with your friends.  Go with couple of your friends that might be interested in the same procedure.  Your plastic surgeon would be more inclined to lower his/her fees when foresees future patients.

  1. Dr S Advice:  Make sure your friends reveal their enthusiasm for plastic surgery.
  2. Warning:  Make sure your friends do not waist time by their own questions.  Most probably your doctor has allocated a limited amount of time for you only.

5-     Look for newly relocated doctors.  Even though rare, but at times an experienced plastic surgeon relocates and looking for new clienteles.  That doctor is more inclined to lower his fees at his/her new location.  “I am charging half of my regular fees at times since I have relocated to Beverly Hills” explains Dr Payman Simoni.

  1. Dr S Advice: Look for relocated doctors in desirable locations like California or Florida.
  2. Warning: “Always do backgrounds check of your doctor and make sure He is Board certified Plastic or Facial plastic Surgeon” recommends Dr Simoni.  Cosmetic surgeons do not have the same training as plastic surgeons.

6-     Check the operating room.  Operating room fee is a significant portion of your procedure fees.  If your doctor has his/her own operating room (s)he is more able to reduce the fee.  Once your doctor has to use outside facility, He has a major fixed expense that cannot be compromised

  1. Dr S Advice:  Make sure the operating room is accredited.

7-     Go to a heavily populated plastic surgery area.  Despite what you may expect, you can get better deal in areas like Beverly Hills than a remote area. 

8-     Go to a specialist: Even though it may seem that you pay a little more originally but at the end the chance of needed revision is less.  Always remember that the revisions cost way more than primary surgeries.  “In some difficult cases I have to charge even double for the revision rhinoplasties when another inexperienced doctor has done some damage” Said Dr Simoni, a rhinoplasty specialist.

9-     Try to book your surgery on the same day.  If you are sure about the doctor and the procedure and the fee is your only reservation suggest a reduced fee for booking at the same day.  Every doctor knows that once you leave the office there is a chance you would not come back.  If your doctor is smart (s)he would opt for a reduced fee for a sure thing.

10- Avoid anesthesia if Possible.  Anesthesia carries a risk as well as high expense.  There are good numbers of plastic surgeries that can be done comfortably without the need for anesthesia.  Eliminating anesthesia eliminate a good portion of the cost.

  1. Dr S Advice: Make sure your doctor is comfortable to do your procedure without anesthesia.  It is a skill of its own and not shared by all surgeons.  “I do over 90% of my surgeries comfortably without the need for anesthesia” explained Dr Simoni.

Micheal Jackson: King of Pop or Plastic Surgery

The Many Faces of Michael JacksonMike was born August 28, 1958 – one of 9 kids.  He was born with cute African-American facial characteristics. However, his father reportedly nicknamed him “Big Nose”.   That may have started his long battle with his nose. 

 People first noticed the changes with his nose during the “thriller” era when he was just 26 years old.  His nose seemed slightly narrower.  At this time his nose was still proportional to his face and ethnicity, explains Dr Simoni, a Beverly Hills rhinoplasty specialist who has never treated Micheal Jackson. 

 Just one year after, Michael’s, nose appeared to be even thinner.  This could have been the normal progression of healing after rhinoplasty, believes Dr Simoni.  His nose still looked good for his face.

 2 years later, at age 29, Michael seemed to have another nose job and cheeks implant.  His dramatic facial changes in conjunction with whiter skin got people talking.  He blamed his change in skin color on a medical condition called vitiligo.  However, the uniform skin color on his face and neck could hint on the use of skin bleach.

 His famous little teeny nostril triangles and a sharp razor bridge of the nose popped on the pictures 3 years later.  This was the nose surgery that he really should not have done.  Or more importantly his doctor should have refused, explains Dr Simoni.  To make matter worse, he now had a manly cleft in his chin and a square jaw. 

 Most probably, he was not satisfied with his last nose surgery at this time but there was no point of return.  In couple of years, at 1993, his legal allegations and loss of some important advertisement contracts has probably made him more dissatisfied with himself.  He probably took out his anger out on his nose and underwent another rhinoplasty that devastated his nose to the max.  This time his nose was at the worst of his life; an extremely upturned nose with a super-sharp tip.  He truly gave the expression “Cutting off the nose to spite the face” a new meaning. 

 

In 1997, he shows up with a larger chin implant that made his nose even less in balance.  This is the part that is difficult for me to comprehend, explains Dr Simoni.  We have someone who is extremely “unlucky” with his nose procedures.  Now some plastic surgeon decides to go ahead and go extreme on his chin too.  This should be warned to plastic surgeons on their first day of their training.

 Michael celebrated the new millennium with an eyelid surgery.  At 2004, Michael had a reconstructive surgery on his nose by a German plastic Surgeon.  No significant change was seen but it was definitely somewhat improved.

 It is obvious that Michael consistently wanted a thinner nose through his life.  Was it his father remarks at early age that created his wrong self image?  We would never know.  But the lack of complain on his part against any of his plastic surgeons could indicate that he may have blamed himself through out.  But Dr Simoni believes that an equal blame should be placed on those plastic surgeons who blindly did what they were requested.

Some job seekers invest in plastic surgery to compete

LOS ANGELES, Apr. 8, 2009 (Reuters) — When the going gets tough, some of the tough get going to the plastic surgeon’s office.

The recession clearly took a cut out of plastic surgery in 2008 with US cosmetic surgeries down 9 percent to $11.8 billion, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

But some surgeons and patients are now citing increased interest in surgery among people wanting to look younger and “fresher” for the ever-competitive job market.

“I’m 56 and I’ve been in the music business for 35 years. We’re not having a good year and I know I’ll soon have to interview,” said Jeff Grabow, a music marketing executive in Los Angeles, who recently spent $17,000 on a facelift.

“The surgery made sense for me. I look at least 10 to 15 years younger and I have more confidence,” he said.

Grabow’s surgeon, Payman Simoni, performs what he calls a “wide awake facelift” using only local anesthesia, which he says slashes the recovery time as well as the cost by as much as $6,000, making it popular among job seekers.

“Before the economy turned down, people would come in because they wanted to have more fun and enjoyment out of life,” he said. “But now plastic surgery has become a necessity for some. People cannot only rely on their skills in this market. They want to look refreshed and youthful so they can compete for jobs,” he said.

COSMETIC TUNE-UPS

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released a recent survey showing that American women were looking at cosmetic surgery to get a competitive edge in the workplace.

About 13 percent of the 756 women surveyed, between the ages of 18 and 64, say they would consider having a cosmetic medical procedure to make them more confident and more competitive in the job market.

About 3 percent said they already had a cosmetic procedure to increase their perceived value in the workplace, and 73 percent said they believed that appearance and youthful looks play a part in getting hired, a promotion, or getting new clients, particularly in these challenging economic times,

Linda Mason, a television producer and photographer in Los Angeles, said she recently got a facelift because she is in a “young business.”

“I deal with young people and the best way to succeed in this business is to stay young,” she told Reuters.

Manhattan plastic surgeon Stephen Greenberg saw an opportunity in this growing trend and recently began promoting a “Job Fighter Package” for men and women.

“We’ve probably done no less than 50 to 60 tune-ups since launching the package about five months ago,” Greenberg said, noting that not all the “tune-ups” have involved surgeries, but also less costly and invasive procedures like cosmetic injectables.

“Men and women in their 40′s and 50′s are competing with peers 10 to 15 years younger and employers naturally tend to go to a person who looks fresher and younger, despite who is better qualified,” Greenberg said, adding that a lot of his patients view the surgery as an investment and are financing it with loans.

Plastic surgery loans can involve financing charges of 12 to 19 percent, according to industry experts.

In addition to the perceived competitive advantage from a face lift, some surgeons believe the recession is starting to cause more and more patients to get “work done” for an emotional lift in these dark times.

“I think when people are down about the economy, they want to do things to make them feel better,” Greenberg said.

New York City jeffplastic surgeon Steven Pearlman agreed.

“People are fed up and are starting to figure that it’s time to live a little. Cosmetic surgery is about investing in yourself. It makes you look good and feel better about yourself, a dozen times a day when you look in the mirror,” he said

The action has reversed an eight year research ban and, to many, signifies the coming of a new era of potential cures for many debilitating diseases like diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and many cancers. “Many people do not realize that stem cells have been utilized in plastic surgery for decades now,” said Simoni. Simoni Plastic Surgery was nominated to host a red carpet season finale party with FX and Cablevision.  Tuesday night, Cantina Lounge was packed with guests viewing the show on large theater like screen. The crowed cheered most when Kelly Carlson, who plays Kimber walked on stage.

 

At the end of the event, Kelly Carlson handed out a Velashape gift certificate, offered by Simoni Plastic Surgery, to a lucky winner.

Dr. Payman Simoni Comments on the Alleged Tragic Complications Stemming From Usher’s Wife’s Plastic Surgery
